Mix dal

Personally, we think mix dal is one of the tastiest lentil recipes, mainly due to the combination of different types of lentils. This not only gives a lot of flavor, but also provides many different nutrients in one dish. The cooked lentils are mixed with a tempering of onions, tomato and spices.

Ingredients

  • 250 grams lentil mix (dried)

  • 600 ml of water

  • 1.5 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp plantbased butter

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • 2 cm fresh ginger

  • 5 cloves of garlic

  • 2 dried red chillies

  • 1 small red onion

  • 1 small tomato

  • 0.5 tsp garam masala

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • 0.5 tsp black pepper

  • Fresh coriander (optional)


What should you do?


1. Boil the lentil mix in 600 ml water according to the instructions on the package, together with 0.25 tsp salt.


2. Meanwhile, finely chop 5 cloves of garlic, 2 cm fresh ginger (without skin), 1 small red onion and 1 tomato.


3. Then heat 1 tbsp vegetable butter in another frying pan. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds, ginger, garlic, 2 dried red chillies and the red onion. Stir and after 2 minutes add 0.5 tsp garam masala, 1 tsp turmeric, 0.5 tsp black pepper and the finely chopped tomato.


4. When the tomato has softened, you can add the lentils (when they are cooked) to the pan along with the water and 1.25 tsp salt. Add some extra water if you find the dal too thick. Stir and cook for about 3 minutes.


5. Serve with some fresh coriander & rice, if desired.
