Bhindi Fry: A Simple and Delicious Indian Okra Recipe

This is really one of the easiest Indian dishes, in which okra (bhindi in Hindi) is used. The okra is fried with some spices until it is soft and slightly crispy. It is then served in combination with dal, roti, or rice.

What do you need?

  • 2 tbsp sunflower oil (possibly mustard oil)

  • 500 grams of bhindi (okra)

  • 2 tsp cumin seeds

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • Salt (to taste)

What should you do?

1. Wash the bhindi well and then dry it with a clean tea towel. This makes the bhindi less slimy while cutting. Then cut off the two ends and slice the rest, as shown in the photo above.

2. Heat 2 tbsp sunflower oil in a pan and add 2 tsp cumin seeds. After 30 seconds you can add the bhindi and fry on medium heat.

3. When the vegetables shrink and become less slimy, you can add turmeric and salt. Stir well, cook for a few more minutes, and serve.

Best in combination with dal, chapati, and/or rice. Enjoy!
